Former Members & Special Guests

In addition to the fabulously talented group of individuals Happy Nowhere currently claims among its ranks, there are many equally talented people who have contributed to Happy Nowhere over the past two years…

Former Members:

Uneeda Brewer – Uneeda was one of the original lovely ladies of Happy Nowhere. Some of our favorite "Uneeda roles" are the ‘gnome’ in "Melancholy Gnome" and ‘LaQuinta’ in "Poor and Proud". She also began writing for us shortly before she left the group, leaving us with the very funny sketches "Out to Lunch" and "GlobeLife Insurance". Uneeda moved to Tallahassee, Florida in spring 2003 and we’ve been trying to coax her back ever since.

Robert John Holmes – Robert John studied theatre at the University of Montevallo and was one of our original Happy Nowhere actors. He appeared in our debut performance at BFT and, thanks to his experience in stage management, was the sole reason we were able to pull our sh*t together for that production. Then (and I am not kidding here, folks) Robert John mysteriously disappeared before our first performance at WorkPlay. Much speculation about his whereabouts and safety followed, until he reappeared at a rehearsal several months later only to reveal that he had been working at Outback. To this day, we still prefer to believe that Robert John joined the Witness Protection Program.

Jeff Speetjens – Jeff appeared in both our debut at BFT and our first performance at WorkPlay. He also contributed to some of our early material, assisting in the writing of "The Party" and co-writing "The Birds and The Bees", which also originated from his idea. Jeff was a theatre student at Montevallo during the period we worked with him. He left the group to concentrate on school.

Special Guests:

Michelle Par – Michelle has appeared in several Happy Nowhere shows as a special guest performer. Most recently she was the creepy cryptkeeper host of our 2003 Halloween special, and she has also appeared in the sketches "Fine Arts School", "Bishop Casanova" and as the baby zombie in our 2002 Halloween show. Michelle also worked with Shannon previously in Torrential Downplay, The Country Club at Birmingham Festival Theatre, and a little production we like to call Brad & Shannon’s wedding in the role of maid of honor.

Jennifer Price – Jennifer was a guest performer in our 2003 Halloween special, contributing her great comic timing and wide of array of characterizations to the sketches "The Miracle of Birth", "The Gay Ghost", and "Happily Ever After", just to name a few. Jennifer can be seen and heard daily in television and radio ads, and also performs on occasion at Terrific New Theatre and Birmingham Festival Theatre. We hope we didn’t scare her too much and that we’ll have the chance to work with her again in the future.

Amy Donahue – Amy was also a guest performer in our 2003 Halloween show. At some point in the rehearal process we realized that almost every character Amy portrayed was killed at some point in the sketch. This was completely unintentional, but amusing nonetheless. We hope that we will get the chance to work Amy again in the future, and perhaps even let her live through the end of a sketch.

Tony Beckham & Kevin Van Hyning – Tony and Kevin are both members of the very funny Montgomery improv and sketch comedy group Brainfreeze. (www.brainfreezecomedy.com) They deserve to be listed here simply for making the trip to Birmingham to see our shows so often. However, the real reason they’re on this page is for their fantastic portrayal of pirate invaders from the underworld in our 2003 Halloween show, where they captured the good guys…and our hearts. Awww.

Callie Mauldin – Callie wrote for Happy Nowhere for a couple of months between her graduation from Auburn University and her move to New York. Callie and Shannon had worked together previously in the improv comedy troupe Torrential Downplay, and Happy Nowhere was very happy to have her input, even if only for a short period of time. Callie’s contributions include one of our favorite sketches, "Dysfunctional Family", and the ever popular "Homeless Garage Sale". She currently resides in NYC, which is so much cooler than residing here.
